Lotnummer: 1320
NEBRASKA. OMAHA. Shares of $100. black, gold seal. No 39. Formed 1879 by Jay Gould. Gould had acquired the Kansas Pacific and Union Pacific Railroads, each of which had its own express division, and merged the two into this new company. The Pacific Express was strongly promoted, and was one of the half-dozen major express companies of the continent. These shares were acquired by the Wabash Railroads (also belonging to Gould). In 1910, the Pacific company was dissolved, when Wells Fargo took over its remaining routes. By this time, the age of the expresses was over - railroads offered a service everywhere but the remotest areas. Very fine vignette of a heavily-loaded express stage-coach at speed, passing a train.
