Lotnummer: 812
LISBOA. 5 Acçoes de 200$00. brown, buff. #10000. No 4481-85. The share shows the famous Portuguese poet Luis Vaz de Camoes (1524-80), holding up the manuscripts of the epic poem 'The Lusiadas', which tells the story of the Portuguese navigators, who rounded the Cape of Good Hope, at the tip of Africa. 'Adamastor' is a personage in the Lusiadas. The large-format piece is of dramatic design, with Camoens saving himself, and the precious Lusiadas, from a shipwreck. Architecture-type border, with globes, and the logo of a ship's captain at sea. A fine piece indeed. Designed by Alfredo Roque Gameiro, a water-colour painter of Lisbon. He was born 1864 at Minde, and gained an honourable mention in Paris in 1900. This certificate represents 5 shares, similar pieces are known of 1 share. Both are extremely rare.
