Inc. by 1837 to build a 116-mile line from Worcester MA to the NY state line at West Stockbridge, to connect with the Hudson & Berkshire RR, from Stockbridge to the city of Hudson. At Worcester it connected with the Boston & Worcester RR, giving a thru route from Boston to the Hudson River. Opened by 1840. Later leased the Albany & West Stockbridge, and Hudson &Boston RRs. In 1867 was consolidated into the Boston & Albany RR. Small hole-cancellations. Signed as Treasurer by Josiah Quincy (1829-1910), the energetic and reformist mayor of Boston 1823-7, who founded and encouraged many city and state institutions.
