NEW YORK. Share of $25. green, red, gold seal. No 9530. Trimmed left border. Formed in New York, by Caleb Cushing (1800-1879), an American politician and diplomat (who has signed the share) to sell land to immigrants. His fellow-founder was a Count Taube, a Baltic businessman living in Stockholm (to whom this share is issued). The first group of emigrants (125 Swedish families) arrived in Wisconsin, but did not receive the promised lands. They were completely reimbursed, but this bought the company to bankruptcy. Shows an idyllic view of the offered lands.
