Lotnumber: 1169
SOUTH DAKOTA. NEW YORK. 1 Action de Capital de F500=$100=£20. green, gold, black, gold seal. No 3039. Folds. Many collectors consider this the finest of all mining pieces. It must be the most decorative, and is beautifully printed. The design shows the complete gold-mining process, from mining the ore to washing, to extract the particles of gold. It also shows many nuggets, and so much else. The reverse is entirely in gold-print. A classic among mining pieces. Uncancelled. This share, unlike the other Great Cariboo known, has the text in FRENCH, which we find quite extraordinary and inexplicable. Moreover, it is dated 1905, earlier than other known pieces, and at this time the company's shares were of $100 each, not $1 as on later shares. This piece has the company seal dated 1903, but the seal on the later shares is undated. Was the company reorganised between 1905 and 1907? This warrant was exchangeable for a nominative $100 share at the transfer agents in New York or Paris. What was the French connection? Fascinating. Only this one piece was discovered in 2004, as such it is much rarer than the later issue of this company.
