MADRID. 6% Obligacion de 500 Pts. Serie A. yellow, black. No 163. Large format bond, showing a great Mercury and industrial worker, arms of Spain and Madrid, and medallion portraits of Raymond Lull and Miguel Servet. Design by Padro, engraved by Estève, a Valencian engraver who showed his work at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1936. Lull (c.1235-1315) was a Mallorcan author, mystic and missionary, who wrote much controversial religious work, especially against the Moslems. Servet (1511-53) was a physician and polemic, from Toledo, who caused great controversy by his anti-papal and pro-reformation views. Superb piece.
