BOZEN. 5% bond of 66 florins. black. No 60. Folds and stained over much of the certificate. Yet, a very readable (in German) and a most interesting certificate of early date. This was a bond issued by the city of Bozen to finance its military requirements during the very turbulent Napoleonic period. Indeed, Bolzano became, after the dissolution of the Holy Roman Empire in 1806, part of the Napoleonic Kingdom of Italy. After the Congress of Vienna (1814-15), Bolzano returned to the Austrian Empire as capital of the Austrian Südtirol provinceuntil the end of WWI, when the whole area became part of Italy. Bozen is today Bolzano, chief town of the Bolzano province of Italy. A unique discovery in 2015.
