PARIS. Contract + Récépissé. Cat. Shak. 703. black. No 9474. In 1759 Louis XV required the holders of the very profitable tax-farms to lend money to the crown, to help pay the costs of the Seven Years War (1756-1763). These loans were issued as bearer bonds for 1000 livres. In 1770, as part of a general reorganisation of the chaotic royal finances, he decreed that all such certificates should be converted in rentes. The holder of this rente delivered 4 of these bonds in exchange for this rente.
