Coat-of-arms of the city of Arkhangelsk or Archangel, in the north of Western Russia on the banks of the Northern Dvina River near its exit into the White Sea. The city was the chief seaport of medieval and early modern Russia until 1703, when it was replaced by Saint Petersburg. This and the following bonds are part of a loan of 3 mio. roubles. To the best of our knowledge, only the 100 roubles type is known (but very rare). The 1000 and 5000 roubles (next lot) types however, are not offered anywhere before. Both pieces are unique finds.
