GAIA. 10 Acçoes de Esc.100. dark green, red. No 1571-80. Large format. The buildings of this ceramic factory at Gaya, opposite Porto, had a chimney which was a much-loved local landmark, and fine tilework, dating from its construction in 1896. However, recently, when the building had greatly deteriorated with time, the council of Vila Nova de Gaia intended to demolish all. It was met with a public outcry, and the tilework was saved, but the chimney was demolished in early 2014. The site now houses a large do-it-yourself shop, owned by an English group. The share shows the works, and the smoking chimney.
