Formed 1882 to take over a concession for lines Piraeus-Athens-Corinth-Patras, with a branch to Navplion-Argos-Myli, a total of 306km. In 1888 the company bought the Patras-Pyrgos line, then in course of construction. In 1891 the government handed over to the company the constructed parts of the lines Myli-Tripolis-Kalamata, and a subsidy to complete the line. Much of the finance was raised in London, where the shares and bonds were quoted. In 1940 the company was declared insolvent, and the assets taken over by the Greek government.
