OOST-VLAANDEREN. GAND. Action de Dividende, specimen. purple, black. # 2000. Folds and one repaired tear. Lovely design from the Cote Libre printers. It shows amongst others the oil installations of the company, coat-of-arms, etc. The firm was originally known created by Jos Sudan in the late 1890s. He started importing oil from the US and sold it as lamp oil to the common citizens of Ghent to illuminate their homes. With the arrival of the automobile, he quickly expanded his business and built a refinery (the first in Ghent) in the port. For doing so, he founded this company in 1899. Under the brand name Columbia Lux-Oil the firm thrived further. After WWI, the company was taken over by an American enterprise. Never before seen by us and from an old collection.
