Lotnumber: 352
BRUXELLES/AUDENAARDE. Bon pour 50 Fr. black. No 96. Issued by the "Recette Générale de la Belgique", a government body that resorted directly under the Secretary General of Finances. It was established by the "Hautes Puissances Alliées dans la Belgique" on March 8, 1814. In other words, the Allied Forces fighting Napoleon at that time. The document is a (tax?) contribution of 50 fr. from a citizen of Oudenaarde to the Allied Forces at the moment that they start ruling Belgium, just after they won the territory from Napoleon, but before it became part of the Netherlands (1815). An interesting document from a crucial period in Belgium's history and worthy of further research. Not seen before by us.
