Penning/medal. A small format medal showing the portrait of King Willem II as founder of the Société Générale, also the original name of the Soc. Gén. can be read (Alg. Mij. Ter bevordering vd Volksvlijt). Hence, this coin, although undated, could be struck to celebrate the foundation of the company, in which case it would be dated 1822. Alternatively, it could be struck to commemorate 50 or 150 years of existence of the holding (not 100 years because another medal was made on that occasion). We would welcome any more information from our readers.
