LONDON. Treasury Bill £10.000, specimen. black. Central fold. The Union of South Africa was created in 1910 by the unification of four areas: the 2 former independent Boer republics of the South African Republic, the Orange Free State and the British dominated Cape Province and Natal. The Union was given British Dominion status, putting it on par with other important British dominions and allies: Canada, Australia and New Zealand. This treasury bill, marketed by London-based banks, was to be issued in the year after unification. As such, it is the oldest state paper we know from the Union of South Africa. A specimen printed by C. Skipper & East.
