4% Obligation de F500. Serie 1. blue, yellow. # 20000. No 13692. Heavy central fold with small hole. Large format bond. In 1906 the Etat Indépendant du Congo and the Co. du C.D.F. du Bas-Congo au Katanga made an agreement to construct a railway from Léopoldville, Bas-Congo, to Katanga. A number of loans were issued to finance the construction and this is a bond of the first issue of 10 mio. frs. The ornate border of oak-leaves and acorns, part Jugendstil/Art nouveau, includes vignettes of the arms of Belgium, a train and a ship. The line was never completed. The section from the Rhodesian border to Bukama, on the upper Congo River, was built by 1918, and extended to Port-Francqui, on the Kasai River, by 1928, but the gap, of 850km, was never filled.
