ILLINOIS. CHICAGO. 1 Share of $100. green, black, gold seal. No 604. A splendid piece, of which we are told only 3 exist. The company offered a way of carrying railway cars or horse-drawn buses across a river. The vehicle was loaded on a platform, then moved from one side to the other by a steam-powered cable system. Thedual vignettes (passenger car and 'ferry car with teams') show clearly the system in use, to cross a waterfall. As far as we know, the system was never built. Whether it was a serious project, or just a way to extract money from investors' pockets, wewill never know.
