No building until after the end of the Civil War, and then only 34 miles, from Gulf Junction (on the Alabama River, opposite Selma) to Pine Apple AL were built.In 1879 the Louisville and Nashville started a new company, the Pensacola and Selma RR Co, and this took over the Selma and Gulf. Formally taken over in 1880 by the L&N, which greatly extended the line. The Selma and Gulf delivered a lot of cotton to Selma for marketing. Vignette of a train beside the Alabama River.
