NEW-YORK. 7% Bond of $1000. green, green seal. #175. No 18. One of the earliest known railroad bonds of which only 175 were issued. Green seal embossed with a vignette of an early train. The train cars were pulled by horses when this line opened (April 1837) but by the end of the year steam locomotives had already replaced the horses. Taken-over by the Rochester, Lockport and Niagara Falls Railroad in 1850 and three years later consolidated into the New York Central RR. Signed as president by Washington Hunt, a democratic politician from New York, member of the Congress and Governor of the state of NY. A very rare piece.
