Lotnumber: 1206
NUEVA YORK. 7% Gold Bond for $500 or 500 Pesos oro. Serie B. orange, black. No 726. The loan was raised in New York by Cubans wanted to establish a republic independent of Spain. Repayment would be made one year after a Republican government was established in the entire island. This, of course, did not happen until 1900, after the Spanish-American war, so it is unlikely that the bondholder received his money. Map of Cuba, also on the reverse. Lady with arms of Cuba, and an Indian lady carrying fruit. Attractive and very popular but hard to find bond which symbolises an early attempt of Cubans to become independent.
