LONDON. Shares of £1. black. No 6425. Folds and a few pin-holes. Formed London 1906 as Cartagena (Columbia) Railway Co. Ltd, to build a railway of 105 miles from the port of Cartagena to Calamar, on the River Magdalena. Also owned port facilities in Cartagena, and a fleet of 32 river steamboats on the Magdalena. Name changed 1913 on acquiring the Colombia Navigation Co.Ltd. The company was never profitable. It paid a small dividend in 1910 but never later. Bond interest was usually in arrears. The capital was twice reduced by 95%, from shares of £1 to 1 shilling, and consolidated into new shares, which were valued far below their nominal value. Liquidation 1949.
