Preference Shares of £1. black, red paper seal. No 704. Vignette of works at top, scrollwork at left. Wellington Works, Oldham, near Manchester. Formed in 1874 to take over sewing machine company, and extended its operations into cycle manufacturing during the boom of 1896. Motor cycles were produced at theturn of the century and a range of 4,5hp cars were built in 1905. The company was liquidated in 1929, probably as a result of the Great Depression. Attractive and rare share.
