EINDHOVEN. Gewoon Aandeel Fl.1000. green, black. No 236. Folds. The Philips parent company was formed in Eindhoven in 1912 ; lamp-manufacture had started in 1892. In the 1920s and 1930s it expanded worldwide into the giant concern we know today. Very little scripophily of Philips comes on the market. This piece, cancelled in 1982, was hand signed by Frits Philips (to confirm transfer of the share to Hendrik A. Cornelis van Riemsdijk (1911-2005). van Riemsdijk was the last member of the Philips family (married to Henriëtte Philips) who was a board member, and even chairman of the board (1971-1977), of the Philips concern. Frits Philips (1905-2005) was the Philips chairman from 1961 to 1971. He was a major public figure in the Netherlands for much of his 100-year long life - not only for his business career, but also his art collection and link with football club PSV Eindhoven. In his hometown he was nicknamed 'King of Eindhoven’ Apart from his original signature on the back, his signature (in facsimile) is also on the front side, together with that of Frans Otten, Philips Chairman from 1939 to 1961 and husband of Anna Philips. A great piece of Dutch industrial history.
