Distinguished French engineer René Couzinet began building aeroplanes in 1928, with the stylish Couzinet 10 Arc-en-Ciel prototype, designed for transatlantic flight. It was destroyed, by fire, but he developed the Couzinet 70, also called Arc-en-Ciel, and intended for Aéropostale's mail service to South America. It entered regular service in 1934. Couzinet went to Brazil in the late 1930s, to help develop its aviation industry.
