BRUSSEL. Tontine van 24 Florins. black. No 18. Small format, 4 page document. The company was founded in 1787 to borrow sums of money by selling tontine annuities. The directors were Pierre van Schoor, of Brussels, M. Beths and P. Michaux. This is a tontine contract selling a rente viagère (of annually 24 florins) to a citizen of the city of Aalst against an invested capital of 400 florins. Each time a member of the tontine scheme passes away, half of his annual rent (12 florins) was divided yearly amongst the remaining participants, until all have passed away. An interesting financial construction.
